Please describe your career so far
Originally a trained banker, I came to IT as an SAP consultant via a detour as a controller. I was enthusiastic about SAP as a software solution right from the start. However, I kept finding weaknesses and at some point I wanted to move to the other side (from user to consultant) in order to make an even more efficient application available to users. After 8 years of external SAP consulting with a focus on accounting and controlling, I then decided to switch to in-house consulting for family reasons. So I started at AMS IT in 2019. In the meantime, I got a longing for business trips again, so I switched back to external consulting in 2021, but after just a few months there I realized that I missed a lot of AMS IT (especially in terms of structure and team spirit). Fortunately, my old position was still available in 2022 and I was allowed to return.

How many employees are in your team?
The entire AMS SAP Competence Center currently consists of 13 colleagues with different areas of responsibility.

What responsibilities are there and what skills and qualifications are required for your position?
In our team, we have a lot of freedom with regard to IT design in the SAP environment. We support a wide range of specialist departments with regard to the design of IT and business processes and are responsible for both project and operational processes for the systems we provide. Particularly in an international, global group like ALTANA, this requires a good level of English, social skills (working with employees from different cultures), a high degree of customer and solution orientation, analytical thinking and team spirit.

How did ALTANA support you in your professional development?
When I joined ALTANA, I was still a kind of “one-man show”.
My task was to set up an SAP S/4HANA system as a pilot at the HOLDING, which was initially primarily intended to replace an existing but outdated treasury solution. The AMS SAP Competence Center was then founded at the end of 2019. Since then, I have taken on more and more responsibility in various projects as a project manager, idea generator and in-house consultant for process optimization. Overall, the company is constantly evolving, which naturally has an individual impact on each employee. Within our team, each employee has a great deal of creative freedom and yet ALTANA also supports the joint development of employees through a great management team.

What does the future of the IT department look like?
IT is growing. The market is becoming ever more varied and challenging. Business processes have to adapt ever more quickly to current conditions in order to remain competitive. Changes in the market are becoming increasingly fast-moving and therefore require ever faster and more complex reactions. As a result, IT must of course always stay on the pulse in order to offer the company the best possible IT solutions and processes and to be able to react promptly to adapted requirements.

Fun Fact - Describe yourself using 3 hashtags
#Level-flexible :D (Work should be efficient, but also fun)
#Teamplayer (give and take, knowledge transfer is very important to me)
#Perfectionist (80/20 is not for me, a car without wheels simply cannot drive)

What should future colleagues know about you?
I always enjoy learning new things, but I am just as happy to pass on my knowledge. Mutual respect is the be-all and end-all for me. And communication is very important to me, because only people who communicate can really be helped.
